Dr. Ramon C. Barba is recognized for his significant contributions to Philippine Agriculture through horticulture. He developed a process that caused the flowering and fruiting of mango trees three times a year, instead on once a year, so dramatically improving yields. His work found applications in advancing the mango export industry. His research on tissue culture of many horticultural crops, bananas, cassava, and sugarcane among others, enabled the development of methodologies in physiology and plant breeding. In 2013 Ramon Barba became National Scientist in the Philippines for his “distinguished achievements in the field of plant physiology, focusing on induction of flowering of mango and on micro propagation of important crop species.”

Dr. Julian Banzon has done a great deal of work on local materials especially coconut as the renewable source of chemicals and fuels. His work on the production of ethyl esters from sugarcane and coconut is the first study on fuels from these crops. He also devised some novel processes noteworthy among these is the extraction of residual coconut oil by chemical, rather than by physical processes.

Dr. Nathaniel Bantayan is recognized of his significant work in the field of Forestry Engineering, specifically in the development of tools and techniques in managing and visualizing environmental and natural resources data and information through the use geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing technologies. The models he developed include modeling of flood-prone areas, estimation of erosion susceptibility, and fire prone areas. His impressive record of accomplishments and dedication to help improve geographic information systems of the country at such a comparatively young age indicates great potential for even more important work at the forefront of newly emerging technologies in the near future.
